The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) is located in Woody Hall 350, and is the administrative home for the following units:
- Office of Sponsored Projects Administration (OSPA)
- Office of Research Compliance
- Advanced Energy Institute
- Center for Wildlife Sustainability Research
- Center for Fisheries, Aquaculture & Aquatic Sciences
- STEM Education Research Center
- Cannabis Science Center
- Meyers Institute for Interdisciplinary Research in Organic and Medicinal Chemistry
- BioLaunch
- Office of Innovation and Economic Development
- Research Support Facilities
The office also works closely with SIU Carbondale's other research centers to strengthen research and graduate education. It works with the System’s technology transfer program and works closely with the Southern Illinois Research Park. It offers a matching funds program for grants, supports faculty processional development by providing partial support to attend and present at conferences, funds a program to repair, replace, and purchase research equipment and renovate research facilties, as well as a new faculty startup program. One advantage of attending a comprehensive research university such as SIU Carbondale is the opportunity to participate in research, working one-on-one with faculty and graduate students. "Research" may be conducted in any discipline, from science to the arts; we define it broadly as inquiry, discovery, and creation of new knowledge and new perspectives about the world. SIU Carbondale offers research opportunities for students at all levels.
