Henry “Hank” Souders, a sophomore student in SIU’s School of Automotive, died September 21, 2024, a victim of a traffic accident on campus heading to work as a certified motorcycle license instructor.
The automotive program was a perfect fit for the Oak Park, IL student and he never considered attending any other school – the combination of hands-on labs, interesting classroom work, and caring staff fueled his passion for transportation technology. His infectious enthusiasm, kindness, and knowledge enabled him to challenge his peers to broaden their horizons and strive for more.
To honor his memory, his family and the SIU Foundation have established for the Hank Souders Scholarship Fund to benefit School of Automotive at SIU students.
